About Me

Hi. My name is Adrienne Lynch. I am currently a Junior at the University of South Alabama. This is my first year here at South and I'm really enjoying it but hating the homework.

I am majoring in Physical Education. I choose PE because I enjoy working with students and teaching them new skills. I really would prefer to work the younger students versus the older ones simply because with the older students have more of a attitude.

Overall I look forward to completing my degree here at South and teaching Physical Education to students in the near future.

Skills

I think that in Physical Education students should be taught skills. Physical Education gives the students the skills they need to be active as adults. Few adults learn new skills they more often practice and enhance the skills learned earlier in childhood. The elementary school years are an excellent time to teach motor skills because children have the time and predisposition to learn them. The types and ranges of skills presented in Physical Education should be unlimited. Students need the opportunity to encounter and learn as many different skills as possible.

Fundamental skills are the skills that people need for living and being. These skills are necessary for children to function effectively in the environment. Fundamental skills form the foundation of human movement and are usually identified by a single verb, such as walking, twisting, running, jumping, and stretching. These skills are the tools that most adults use to participate in leisure activities. Being a Physical Education teacher it is important for me to teach these skills to my students so they don't have a lifetime of inactivity.

Skills play an critical role in getting ready to play sports or skill-related activities. In order for students to be prepared for sports they need to have practiced the skills of agility, balance, coordination, power, and speed. In order to gain these skills students should be taught different activities that lead to sports with these skills. For example the skill of coordination is needed to perform smoothly in football, baseball, tennis, and other sports that require hand-eye coordination. As a future teacher I want to introduce these skills to my students and have them ready to participate in sports if they so choose.
