About Me

Hi. My name is Adrienne Lynch. I am currently a Junior at the University of South Alabama. This is my first year here at South and I'm really enjoying it but hating the homework.

I am majoring in Physical Education. I choose PE because I enjoy working with students and teaching them new skills. I really would prefer to work the younger students versus the older ones simply because with the older students have more of a attitude.

Overall I look forward to completing my degree here at South and teaching Physical Education to students in the near future.

The Use of Blogs

Blogs are an important part of the classroom. I plan on having a blog that I make regular posts to that parents can keep up with what we are doing in Physical Education. I want parents to be involved with the physical activities and help out with the nutrition of their children. Parents play a key role in the lives of their children.

In having a blog I can also make links to outside websites that may be helpful to parents. With these links parents can look at nutritional sites that help not the child but also the parent. Blogs are be coming more and more popular and they are very useful when used in the classroom.

Games

This is different types of sports equipment
I feel that students should be taught different games and incorporate the importance of team work. Games and team work provide a student with a more opportunities to succeed. It is important that students learn to work with others so that one day when they are in the real world they will be ready.

Many PE teachers simply put the equipment out and expect the students to just play. I want to work with my students and teach them the different games and rules to the games. I feel every child should have this chance and not a lazy PE teacher who just assumes the students already know the concepts of the game.

Skills

I think that in Physical Education students should be taught skills. Physical Education gives the students the skills they need to be active as adults. Few adults learn new skills they more often practice and enhance the skills learned earlier in childhood. The elementary school years are an excellent time to teach motor skills because children have the time and predisposition to learn them. The types and ranges of skills presented in Physical Education should be unlimited. Students need the opportunity to encounter and learn as many different skills as possible.

Fundamental skills are the skills that people need for living and being. These skills are necessary for children to function effectively in the environment. Fundamental skills form the foundation of human movement and are usually identified by a single verb, such as walking, twisting, running, jumping, and stretching. These skills are the tools that most adults use to participate in leisure activities. Being a Physical Education teacher it is important for me to teach these skills to my students so they don't have a lifetime of inactivity.

Skills play an critical role in getting ready to play sports or skill-related activities. In order for students to be prepared for sports they need to have practiced the skills of agility, balance, coordination, power, and speed. In order to gain these skills students should be taught different activities that lead to sports with these skills. For example the skill of coordination is needed to perform smoothly in football, baseball, tennis, and other sports that require hand-eye coordination. As a future teacher I want to introduce these skills to my students and have them ready to participate in sports if they so choose.

Health

The percentage of youth who are overweight has more than tripled in the past 30 years. Physical activity provides immediate and short-term benefits for children. Increased physical activity results in a reduction of the percentage of body fat allowing students to live a healthy life. Increased activity also reduces blood pressure and improves the blood lipid profile for high health-risk children. Providing weighting-bearing activities offer bone mineral density benefits that carry over into adulthood. There are many ways to be healthy and many different health skills to practice.

As a Physical Education teacher I plan on practicing healthy routines and teaching my students the importance of being active and staying active as adults. I want to develop activities contracts for my students that teach the students to monitor their daily activity patterns as well as to maintain and strengthen their nutrition. A website called MyPyramid for Kids explains helpful eating to children. This site has tips, lesson plans, and coloring sheets to help the students understand nutrition. As a future teacher teacher I would want this website to be displayed so that children have access to it as well as parents. Active children and children aware of nutritional meals are more likely to become healthy and active adults.

Enjoying the Classroom

I want children to be able to enjoy my class. I don't want to be the teacher that no one wants to have. As a teacher I want to make my students physical education time fun and enjoyable. I have known some PE teachers who are so strict that the students have hated to go to PE.

With my class I want to be to have control over my students but not so PE isn't fun for them. By learning skills, playing games, and learning about health I think that my students will not only be having a good time but also learning about their well being and carrying it with them throughout adulthood.
